Album Info:Mass Bay RRE Excursion on Housatonic Railroad(based at Canaan, CT) using Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum equipment. BSRM normally operates between Lenox, and Stockbridge, MA. This trip operated from Lenox, north to Pittsfield, back south to Lenox. At Lenox, the 8619 was placed in the lead. South to Canaan, CT. Stops at Lenox, MA, Sheffield, MA, and Canaan, CT. The weather cooperated until Canaan. Instead of chasing back north, I headed for home. http://www.berkshirescenicrailroad.org

BSRM 0954
Title:  BSRM 0954
Description:  No. 954 is a model S-1, diesel-electric switcher built by American Locomotive Co. (ALCO) in Schenectady, NY. It was built in 1945 and carries serial number 73085. The locomotive weighs 100 tons and is equipped with a McIntosh & Seymor model 539 six-cylinder diesel engine, which generates 660 horsepower and 49,675 pounds tractive effort. 0954 was built for the Maine Central Railroad as number 954 and designated class DS-3b. In 1976, it was purchased by General Electric and overhauled at Erie, PA. From there, the locomotive became number 6 and was assigned to GE's Power Transformer plant in Pittsfield, MA. In 1988, GE donated the locomotive to BSRM.

Description:  No. 8619 is a model SW-8, diesel-electric switcher built by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors in LaGrange, IL. It was built in February 1953 and carries serial number 16194. The locomotive weighs 115 Tons and is equipped with a model 8-567-B, eight-cylinder diesel engine, which generates 800 horsepower and 57,650 pounds tractive effort. 8619 was built for the New York Central Railroad as number 9619 and designated class DES-18C. It became Penn-Central number 8619 in 1968, then Conrail number 8619 in 1976. BSRM purchased number 8619 from Conrail in 1985.

Description:  Southbound 1302 HRS. Mead's move into technical and specialty papers dates to the acquisition of the Hurlbut Paper Company (South Lee, Massachusetts) in 1957. Now known as the Specialty Paper division, it manufacturers a wide variety of papers used in decorative laminates for counter tops and furniture, as well as for other industrial applications.
